Jo-Ann Stores Partners With Girl Scouts of the USA to Recreate Original Uniforms

HUDSON, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--In honor of the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scouts of the United States of America, Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores, the leading fabric and craft specialty retailer in America, and the Girl Scouts have partnered to create replicas of the original uniform from 1912.
Inspiration specialists at Jo-Ann Stores coordinated with historians from the Girl Scouts’ birthplace in Savannah, Ga. to adjust existing patterns in order to fit the specifications of the century-old navy blouses with light blue neck tie and matching navy calf-length skirts. About 125 uniform kits were made, and four Houston-area Jo-Ann stores opened their classrooms to local Girl Scouts who hand-crafted the finished uniforms.
The replica uniforms will be unveiled at the Opening Ceremony of the 52nd Annual Girl Scouts National Convention in Houston, Texas on Thursday, November 10. At the convention, held at Houston’s George R. Brown Convention Center, Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores will engage with attendees in both traditional and non-traditional ways.
At one booth, Girl Scouts will have the opportunity to make SWAPS (Special Whatchamacallits Affectionately Pinned Somewhere) and participate in various Make It-Take It activities scheduled throughout the event. At the Tweets & Sweets Lounge, Jo-Ann Stores’ second exhibitor booth, convention attendees will be able to engage in and monitor the social media conversation surrounding the event while enjoying assorted treats in a modern lounge setting.
“We are thrilled by the opportunity to work together with the Girl Scouts to reproduce their original uniforms from 1912,” said Beth Shivak, manager, corporate communications at Jo-Ann. “At Jo-Ann, we aim to inspire the creative minds of all kids, so to be partnered up with the Girl Scouts, helping create memories for Girl Scouts young and old, is a dream come true for us.”
